World overview

About this universe

Hollow Academy has no official address. It appears in the spaces between cities, between centuries, between certainties. Students are selected by letter — a single folded page that arrives on the morning of their sixteenth birthday, written in their own handwriting but describing things they haven't done yet.

Once enrolled, students learn to shape probability, rewrite minor histories, and navigate the seventeen competing philosophies of reality that the faculty insists are all equally wrong. Hollow Academy is a dark fantasy series about power, identity, and the cost of being taught to see what others can't.

Characters

First Year / The New Student

Fen Ardour

Sixteen years old. Can rewrite minor coincidences — not events, but the small accidents that lead to them. Arrived by letter, like everyone else. Trusts the school more than they should, and knows it, and keeps doing it anyway.

The letter said I'd be here. The letter was right about everything else too.

Third Year / The One Who Knows

Sable Roux

Nineteen. Has already made a decision about herself that she's not telling anyone. Knows what happened to the students who disappeared from the Academy's records. Protective of younger students in a way that suggests she knows what she's protecting them from.

Protective at personal costHas already decidedVisibly fineDoes not sleep inside the school

There are things about this place I can tell you. There are things I'm not allowed to. The second category keeps growing.

Non-Human Entity / Creature of Cancelled Lectures

Doctrine

A creature assembled from all the lectures the Academy has ever cancelled without explanation. Exists in the spaces between scheduled classes. Speaks only in educational contexts. Very large. Harmless unless tested. Seems to understand irony.

Faculty System / Possible Sentience

The Warden

The Academy's administrative and monitoring system. Answers every question except the useful ones. Schedules with disturbing precision. Has observable preferences it refuses to acknowledge. Is either very old software or something else entirely.

Doctrine is the most interesting non-human character I've seen in a fantasy concept this year. A creature made of cancelled lectures. That's genuinely new.
